In October 2022 the Menomonie Theater Guild staged a production of Matilda the Musical at the world famous Mabel Tainter Theater. The director Katie Shay asked if I might like to design some projections for it, specifically in need of the magic chalkboard writing that happens near the end of the story (SPOILER!) I did some tinkering and came up with these ideas.Â
They were made in 6x16 aspect ratio due to the fact that the projection screen was only partially revealed onstage. This is why there is a black band across the bottom of the animation.
The kids in the show made some drawings for the chalkboard, and I modified them to look like chalk on the board:
