When students study fantasy writing in the spring, I have often paired it with a design of a tabletop game. Using this project-based approach, it accomplishes several goals: it empowers students to create with their hands; it allows them to show off their understanding of the Hero's Journey; and it helps them creatively demonstrate how a main character overcomes obstacles within a fantasy novel.
